Thoughts

Let me start off by saying that I am a liberal person.  Generally I don’t trust any politicians.  I think they all will say what they think will get them elected.

Now, in the wake of the shooting in Tuscon, I have been seeing posts on FB.  I can’t find it again to copy it, but essentially it’s calling out people who want stricter gun laws.  ”If guns kill people then pencils misspell words” and some other drivel that I can’t remember.

I’m all for the PRIVILEGE to own a gun.  But what needs to be understand that stricter gun laws are not in place for the sane people of the world.  I mean seriously.  Would you want someone with a history of domestic violence to be able to walk into a gun shop and pick up a gun, go home and shoot their spouse?  No.  When it come down to the nitty gritty of it all.. The gun *DID* kill that person.  However, I will also give you that the gun didn’t act of it’s own accord.  If that gun was not in the hand of someone who had no business owning it, the shooting probably would not have taken place.

I understand that the 2nd amendment gives us the right to bear arms, but let’s be realistic.  Has a paranoid schizophrenic person with a history of violence really EARNED that right?  I know that it’s not that person’s fault that they are sick, but really.  They have a right to bear arms?  Lets just give them a gun and see what happens when the voices start telling them to kill people.  Are you still going to say there should be more lenient gun laws?  What happen when that sick person with a gun comes into your neighborhood?  Has the man down the street who had repeatedly beat his wife earned that right?

With that being said; as much as I hate Sarah Palin, I don’t think she should be held accountable for this shooting.  I think she should be more mindful of what she says.  There are people out there who take her word for gospel.  Including less than sane people.

So before you call people like me, who think stricter gun laws should be in place wrong, maybe you should think about this.
The stricter gun laws don’t regulate the guns, they regulate the people who can own them.

I agree with you and I consider myself Libertarian. Our society is such that there must be laws to ensure the safety of the masses. People that are stable would not be affected by greater gun control. I doubt that stricter laws will keep guns away from the most persistant but it’s really the best we can do.

Absolutely! I just wish more people understood that. We don’t live in the same nation we did when the country was first founded.
