Hi, my name is Luna and I’m a hooker.

HooksAnd by hooker, I do mean that I am slightly addicted to crocheting. It’s something I picked up in ’01 when I had back surgery. I am, for the most part, self taught with the exception of the inter-netzzzz. How to videos were my friend since at the time I had no friends who crocheted. The story is that I had a herniated disk. I was essentially bedridden because I waited so long to get it taken care of. I had lost almost all feeling in my left leg, and as such couldn’t be as mobile as I would have liked to have been. I needed something. I was seriously going insane. So… I had seen a morning news show, Today or something like that, and they were talking about how knitting was such a relaxing and rewarding hobby. So I made the ex drive me to the craft store, I got in one of those little electric carts (because I couldn’t walk) and picked out some yarn and one of those “I taught myself to knit” books.

WHOOOBUDDY was that a mistake. By the end of the day I was so frustrated that I was ready to stab the first person who said something to me with my shiny red aluminum knitting needle. I could have cried. I couldn’t get it (and to this day it still doesn’t feel right). But I needed something to do lest I kill my cats and (now) ex. So.. I started looking at some crocheting websites. THAT I picked up pretty quickly. I continued to do it until I finally had my surgery and went back to work. After that I sporadically picked up a hook and some of my stashed yarn and did it just to keep my hands busy.

April 19: 109/365 Crochet Hook

So a little over 3 years ago I picked it up again on a less sporadic basis. It still wasn’t a constant but I ended up making a blanket for Boyo, I made blankets for my Mom’s puppies, I’ve made several scarves and I’m currently working on a Mobius scarf/hood and today while surfing through patterns on Ravelry I found THIS. I can’t wait to start that. It’s simple but looks difficult and if I like the pattern and can make it relatively quickly it might be a good idea for gifts.

I am feeling content again. After the anger I felt in last post, I picked up my mobius and went about my business. Zen and the art of Yarn Crafting!
